The Divine Glory of Baba Gangaram

Lord Baba Gangaram

Whenever devil activities intensify, God to be true to His vow appears in human form. God has to incarnate to bless all the righteous living beings and to show the right path to the mankind. The time and place for His incarnation is regulated according to the intensity of circumstances. For protection of pious & elimination of evil minds, He selects time, place and also the recipient of His human body, just as Lord Rama selected the Raghu dynasty of Ayodhya and the supreme God Sri Krishna, Yadu dynasty of Brijbhumi.

Baba's Appearance and Place For His Spiritual Actions:

Lord Baba Gangaram selected Jhunjhunu, a district town of Rajasthan, as the place of His appearance and Safdargunj, in the district of Barabanki of Uttar Pradesh as His karmabhumi (place for selfless action).

Baba Gangaram
Dham - Shree Panchdeo Temple

Baba descended in this transitory world as incarnation of Lord Vishnu on the 10th light lunar day of the month of shravana (Year 1895 A.D), in the abode of Sri Jhutharamji and mother Laxmidevi, in the family of vaishya dynasty. After examining the constellations at the time of Baba's birth, the scholar Kulpurohit predicted that this child would eradicate the sins like 'Ganga' and purify the soul like 'Ram', hence His name would be 'Gangaram'. Later on, Baba made His name meaningful. From the very childhood, He lived drenched in the pleasure of spirituality. He captivated everyone with His knowledge and conduct. People used to be enchanted by seeing Him preaching religion to His parents in His childhood. They began to realize Baba's supernatural power from adolescence. Many people used to feel Brahmanand (supreme pleasure of God) in His presence. Whatever He uttered with His mouth, that became truth.

But the splendor and princely life of the family could not desist Baba and circulating the sacred atmosphere, He came to the Kaushal Pradesh (present-day Uttar Pradesh). He choose a place on the bank of the holy river Kalyani called Safdarganj in the district of Barabanki and made it His work land‘Karmabhoomi’.Baba spent the latter part of His short life here. The Kalyani river, which was a rainy river, started flowing as a perennial river after the arrival of Baba. In the water of this Kalyani river, Baba had given the impression of Lord Vishnu to some devotees. Once upon a time, Baba was coming out of the water of Kalyani river after His daily bath and tarpan etc. At the same time some devotees and saints present there saw Baba's shadow in the water, smiling in the form of Vishnu and blessing everyone. This episode gradually spread everywhere, but God shows his illusion and hides it back. There are many such instances related to Baba's stay at sardarganj, which recognizes His supernatural powers. Baba used to be distraught by seeing the suffering of the people by roaming from place to place. Perhaps this was the purpose of His incarnation as well.

As such people gained some idea about His transcendental powers & divine glory. But as shastras describe that God prefers to dictate religious activities incognito. Baba preferred to manifest His leela (spiritual games) from vishnulok.

Baba's leela cannot be considered complete without mentioning the role of Bhakt Shiromani Devkinandan and his consort Shakti Swarupa Mata Gayatri Devi. Their place in Baba's leela is the same as that of Hanumanji in Lord Rama's leela. The complete analysis of their character has been done separately. Therefore before His departure to heavenly abode, Baba filled His divine power in child Devkinandan, who was of 6 years, and said - Devkinandan you will write a new history of devotion, by becoming the medium of my pastimes, you will make human beings aware of the ultimate truth of life. Go ahead and enlight the whole world.” As such, in the year 1938 A.D., Baba relinquished His human body beneath a banyan tree on the bank of river Kalyani and ascended to his own abode at vishnulok. At the time of Mahaprayana, there was a magical vibration in that banyan tree and every leaf of it started shaking even without any flow of air. Thereafter that tree got the name as ‘Dehotsarga Vat Vriksha’, which is still situated on the banks of river Kalyani. Safdarganj, now recognized as a place of pilgrimage, have the temple of Radhakrishna, consecrated by Baba, holy river Kalyani, holy Laxmi-well, dedicated Banyan tree, temple of Kunteswar Mahadeo & the mysterious Parijat tree.

Evolution of Baba's Dham: Shree Panchdev Mandir:

Just after Baba left for vishnulok, the incidental miracles began to appear before His devotees. Ultimately, His divine ordain to construct a temple revealed before Bhakt Devkinandan through dreams, which is transcribed hereafter on the basis of his own admission.

A supernatural cosmic ray was prevailing on all sides. Many people were standing around a pit. At my request, the pit was excavated & out came the idols of Lord Shiva, Hanuman, Goddesses Durga and Laxmi and then appeared the idol of Lord Baba Gangaram. Thereafter with endless cosmic rays glittering all round, the throne with the idols, started ascending slowly. Shower of flowers from heaven together with recitals of hymns, praying Baba, illuminated the horizon. Immediately thereafter an oracle flashed- "I have descended in this kaliyug for the bliss of the universe. Let a temple be constructed and engage your mind in worshipping and meditating into me, also propagate among people for larger interest of mankind."

After this divine revelation, Bhakt Devkinandan along with his consort Devi Gayatri established the miraculous temple Shree Panchdev Mandir at Jhunjhunu & the invocation ceremony of the temple was celebrated with rigid vedic rituals on Ganga Dasahara, the 10th day of light fortnight of the jestha (year 1975 A.D.) The idol of Lord Baba Gangaram, along with four other deities, was installed & as such the dream came true and the devotees visiting Shree Panchdev Temple feel delighted in their heart, and they remained standing in obeisance before that splendid glare.

"Baba"- the nickname:

Lord Baba Gangaram was a incarnation like Lord Rama and Lord Sri Krishna and not a hermit or sage. But someone may confuse with the name Baba. In fact Baba,Babaji and Balaji are the nicknames often used to call deities, akin to Sir and Lord. These nicknames are respectful addresses popularly used in North India. Such as the devotees of Lord Shiva & Hanuman addresses them as Bhole Baba and Baba Hanuman respectively. Similarly, Lord Venkateshwara of Tirupati is widely called Balaji.

Gracefulness in the name- "Gangaram":

In each incarnation, Lord appears along with His own shakti (consort). Such as Sita-Ram, Radha-Krishna. Similarly Baba appeared along with Ganga and thus assumed the name 'Gangaram. In Kaliyug, mere chanting the name Ganga & Ram unison liberates from worldly bondage and one can get rid from continuous cycle of birth and death.

Thus, if a devotee surrenders totally before Lord Baba Gangaram with true faith, devotion and complete dependence, he can realize himself the spiritual potency of Baba and gets shelter under His lotus feet. Baba manifested many such miracles which reposes complete faith in Him. The immense purpose of Baba’s incarnation is the bliss of the mankind. He gives all the boons, who worship Him. Devotees find a ready and immediate response to their prayers and as such they visit the temple and rejoice in praise of glory of Baba.
